Become A Volunteer
Our volunteer program is designed to build a partnership with the community and increase public involvement in the fight to end the cycle of domestic violence.
The following are volunteer opportunities for community supporters:
Thrift Store Attendant Aide (Long-term): The thrift store attendant is responsiblefor assisting customers to unload donations, sorting & tagging donations, putting items out on the floor for sale, and cashiering. Aides will also assist with loading and unloading of clothing bin and large furniture donations as well as light cleaning duties. (Assignment opportunities available M-F 9:00am-4:00pm).
*Prospective volunteers will go through an application and interviewing process. Once selected, the volunteer will be provided with comprehensive orientation and training. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, be able to pass a criminal background check and TB test, have a current driver's license and required vehicle insurance, and be willing to give a commitment of at least 12 consecutive months of service.
Special Projects: Special projects include, but are not limited to: shelter improvement projects (painting, landscaping, carpentry), donation drives (for food and clothing), adopting families for holidays, etc.
*Both individuals and groups are welcome to participate in special projects. If you would like to do a special project for the shelter and it is not an activity listed above, please contact Crystal Hollon for more information. (Assignment opportunities are available on an as needed bases).
*Special Project volunteers must be at minimum 18 years of age. Any volunteer under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Special project volunteers will be required to read and sign a confidentiality agreement.
Special Event/Fundraising: Special event volunteers assist staff with miscellaneous tasks during the planning and production of a fundraiser/event. these tasks include: folding, stamping, and/or mailing invitations; announcements; and thank you letters, soliciting community donations, set-up & take down of the event; assist event staff during the event, and log and document event information.
*Both individuals and groups are welcome to participate in special events. (Assignment opportunities are available on an as needed basis).
