Become A Volunteer
Our volunteer program is designed to build a partnership with the community and increase public involvement in the fight to end the cycle of domestic violence.
A variety of essential services are provided by S.A.F.E. House volunteers. We value the contributions made by volunteers and recognize that volunteers are vital to our daily operations.
The following are volunteer opportunities for community supporters:
Clerical Assistant: The Clerical Assistant is responsible to provide a wide variety of administrative support functions for the Family Services department, including document preparation, file maintenance, and other clerical duties as requested. (As needed)
Kitchen Aide: The Kitchen Aide is responsible for assisting in the serving and clean-up of meals to residents. The duties include serving prepared food to residents, washing dishes, sweeping and mopping the dining area and kitchen floors, and wiping surfaces.(Assignment opportunities M-Sun. 6:15am-9:30am, M-Sun 11:15am-1:30pm, M-Sun. 4:30pm-7:00pm).
Fundraising: The Fundraising Volunteer is responsible for assisting in specific fundraising campaigns and/or events. The duties include, but are not limited to; donor communication (via mail or telephone), solicitation of donations, assisting in all aspects of fundraising events. (Assignment opportunities available as needed).
Thrift Store Attendant Aide: The thrift store attendant is responsiblefor assisting customers with donations, sorting & tagging donations, putting items out on the floor for sale, and assisting customers as requested. Aides will also assist with loading and unloading of clothing bin and large furniture donations as well as light cleaning duties. (Assignment opportunities available M-Sat. 9:00am-4:30pm). We accept volunteers for the thrift store beginning at age 16. *We offer both short and long term opportunities.
Shelter Case Manager Assistant: The shelter case manager assistant is responsible for assisting residents, move into their new housing and sorting and organizing of donations. The case manager volunteer will assist case managers in the loading, transporting, and unloading of furniture and household items as well as sorting, folding, hanging and organizing of donations in the emergency closet. (Assignment opportunities available as needed).
R.I.S.E. (Transitional Housing) Case Manager Assistant: The R.I.S.E. case manager assistant is responsible for assisting residents, move into their new housing. The R.I.S.E. case manager volunteer will assist case managers in the loading, transporting, and unloading of furniture and household items. (Assignment opportunities available as needed).
Facilities Aide: The facilities aide will assist the Facilities Manager in various maintenance and facilities duties at the shelter. This will include but not be limited to; painting, changing light bulbs, pick/up donations, etc. (Assignment Opportunities are available M-F 8:00am-5:00pm)
Outing Aide: Volunteer Outing Aide will provide a variety of support to Family Services program staff during weekly outings. The duties include: transporting residents and children to weekly outings, coordinating outing services with program staff, supervising participants, and completing required documentation. Volunteers must be flexible, patient, understanding, creative, be a positive role model, and have reliable transportation. (Sunday afternoons from 12:00pm-5:00pm)
*Prospective volunteers will go through an application and interviewing process. Once selected, the volunteer will be provided with comprehensive orientation and training. All shelter volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, be able to pass a criminal background check and TB test, have a current driver's license and required vehicle insurance, and be willing to give a commitment of at least 12 consecutive months of service. These are requirements unless noted above.
