Volunteer At S.A.F.E. House
An Amazing Experience
Volunteering for S.A.F.E. House is always an incredibly rewarding experience. You can volunteer alone or with a couple of friends. Take a look at our Community Partners Page or our Corporate Partners Page to see how your group, business, or organization can get involved.
Check out our different volunteer opportunities below!
Because of the nature of the work done at S.A.F.E. House, volunteers are required to follow certain standards, including:
-
The completion of a criminal background check
-
Adhering to the physical safety protocols
-
Adhering to confidentiality practices
-
Volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation
A note about background checks
Background checks require that potential volunteers complete detailed paperwork regarding their past living arrangements, education, and more, so the State of New Mexico can conduct the background check.
In addition, this background check is paid for when volunteers are registered for fingerprinting during orientation. Background checks cost $62.00. We ask that volunteers pay for their own background check. Once a volunteer has served 16 or more hours at S.A.F.E. House, they can be reimbursed if they choose.

Volunteers who are interested in handling crisis calls are imperative to helping our Resource and Service Specialists (RSS) give case management services to shelter residents.
Becoming a crisis call volunteer requires additional training which is offered every first Friday of the month.
Shelter
Volunteering in the shelter front office is incredibly rewarding! Shelter volunteers assist our Resident Advocates by assisting residents with day-to-day needs, cleaning, transportion, restocking snacks and supplies, and also have the option to complete crisis calls with an additional training held on the first Friday of each month.
High
School
High school volunteers with community service requirements are welcome to serve at S.A.F.E. House with an adult present.
